About Red Willow Connections

Brandy Kowal, MSW RSW

My name is Brandy and I am a settler of mixed ancestry, born in Treaty 5 territory. While I work and live in Winnipeg, Treaty 1 territory, the bush will always feel like home. My familial roots include Scottish, Irish, Ukrainian, and Metis ancestry. I am a mom to a child with a disability, lover of plants and nature, and survivor.

Professionally, I am a registered social worker with a Masters of Social Work based in Indigenous Knowledges. I have worked in social services for over 10 years, with youth, young adults, and women. For the last 7 years, I have worked with First Nations people. I am grateful to all my Anishinaabe relatives for the knowledge they have shared with me.

I started Red Willow Connections after many years of working in social services, seeing the impacts of a disconnected approach to healing. Being on my own healing journey, recovering from addictions and experiences of trauma, I personally knew how impactful a holistic approach could be. I wanted to bring what I have learned to others, to support healing by integrating mind-body-spirit approaches to healing while facilitating safe connections to All Our Relations.

I value:

  • Humility. I will always be learning and recognize the interconnected, reciprocal, and co-created life we all live.
  • Connection. Connection is the core of this work. As human beings, we rely on our connections to be healthy and well. Connection to our self, each other, community, and all life on Mother Earth helps us to be whole, healthy people.
  • Love. Everything I do, I do from the heart. I am committed to being my genuine self and recognizing you as your genuine self. I make decisions with compassion and care.
